WE NEED PRESENTERS!! Look for the call for papers post card coming in the mail soon!! The Edge of Evidence will be the theme for the upcoming state convention scheduled October 4th, 5th and 6th, 2007 in Boise, Idaho at the Holiday Inn, Vista. Several speakers have already agreed to present at our convention. Ms. Christine Ristuccia with Say it Right will present on her program for Remediation of /R/ is just one of many great speakers scheduled to present. If you are interested in presenting at the fall conference, please submit a proposal by going to the ISHA website at http://idahosha.org click on Call for Papers and submit your proposal. Proposal submission is due by May 15, 2007. Selection of proposals will be completed and you will be notified by June 1, 2007. We are looking forward to a great convention this fall. Tourette Syndrome & Associated Disorders in the Classroom

A One-day Workshop for Educators, Allied Professionals, Agencies

Children with Tourette Syndrome and other motor tics present unique challenges. Participants will learn about Tourette and tics, how they are diagnosed, and ways to manage at school.

Topics include:

  • Criteria for diagnosing Tourette syndrome
  • Associated disorders (ADHD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Fine Motor Deficits and Sensory Defensiveness)
  • Impact of these disorders in the classroom
  • Classroom strategies and techniques
  • Effective positive behavioral accommodations

This is an exciting opportunity to interact with and learn from an international group of researchers representing Canada, Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

You will have the chance to exchange knowledge, showcase “best practices” and innovations, discuss the importance of collecting good evidence and more. This professional learning opportunity is geared towards speech-language pathologists, speech-language pathology students, social workers and health care professionals who provide services to people living with aphasia.

Jefferson S.D. #251 is holding its first annual Health Fair for faculty and staff. The SLP Department will be providing hearing screenings, hopefully with the help of an ISU student needing adult hearing screening hours! We have identified some interactive websites that test a person's knowledge of "How loud is too loud?" and are trying to find free ear plugs to give to each participant. o Stuttering Treatment for Preschool, School-age (with innovative approaches with teens) conference presented by Dr. Barry Guitar. Dr. Guitar is a professor of Communication Sciences at the University of Vermont. His specialty is research, teaching, and clinical work in stuttering. He is a Fellow of the American Speech Language Hearing Association. The conference will be Friday, Feb 16, 2007 in Boise at the Anderson Center affiliated with St. Luke’s. It is sponsored by the Boise NSSLHA chapter at Idaho State University. Brochures will be mailed to ISHA members in mid November.
